Coupon Engine Docs
Getting started

Installation

Coupon Engine has a free core plugin and an optional Pro add-on.

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins β†’ Add New.
  2. Search for β€œCoupon Engine for WooCommerce.”
  3. Click Install Now, then Activate.
  4. Make sure WooCommerce is installed and active β€” Coupon Engine builds on it.

Tip: You can also upload the plugin ZIP under Plugins β†’ Add New β†’ Upload Plugin.

Activating Pro

PRO

Pro unlocks advanced layouts, conversion tools, the restriction builder, and analytics.

  1. Install and activate the free plugin first (Pro extends it).
  2. Upload and activate the Coupon Engine β€” Pro ZIP the same way.
  3. Enter your license key under Coupon Engine β†’ License and click Activate.
πŸ’‘

Note: The free plugin keeps working on its own. Pro simply adds features on top β€” if Pro is ever deactivated, your store falls back to the free behavior safely.

  3. Pick a discount type and amount (e.g. Percentage, 15).
  4. Turn on β€œList in Available offers” so it appears in the cart.
  5. Click Save. Open your store's cart to see it live.

Creating coupons

The coupon editor

The editor is organized into tabs so you only see what you need:

  • General β€” code, description, discount type, amount, expiry, free shipping.
  • Usage restriction β€” the native WooCommerce limits (spend, products, categories, emails).
  • Usage limits β€” how many times the coupon can be used.
  • BOGO Deal β€” buy-and-get rules.
  • Cart Conditions β€” extra conditions plus the restriction builder PRO.
  • Bulk Pricing PRO β€” quantity tiers.
  • URL coupon β€” the shareable apply-by-link and redirect.

Note: The description field appears to customers in the Available-offers list, so write it as a short benefit (β€œ15% off orders over $100”).

The everyday discounts, powered by WooCommerce's native types.

Bulk / tiered pricing

PRO

Reward bigger quantities with automatic tiers.

  1. Add a coupon and open the Bulk Pricing tab.

  3. Choose which products the tiers apply to, then Save.

Auto-apply coupons

PRO

Discounts that apply themselves β€” no code to type.

  1. Open the coupon and find Auto-apply (General tab).
  2. Enable Auto-apply this coupon.
  3. Add any conditions that must be met (see Restrictions), then Save.
πŸ’‘

Note: A customer can still remove an auto-applied coupon; Coupon Engine remembers that choice for their session and won't re-add it.

How it displays (front end)

As soon as the cart qualifies, the coupon shows as applied in the cart with the discount already reflected in the total.

Scheduled coupons

PRO

Limit a coupon to certain dates, days, or times.

  1. Open the coupon and go to Cart Conditions.
  2. In the restriction builder, add rules like Start date, Valid days of week, or Time of day.
  3. Set an expiry date in the General tab if needed, then Save.

Outside the schedule the coupon can't be applied, and the shopper sees a short message explaining why (e.g. β€œThis coupon is not valid today.”).

Bulk coupon generator

PRO

Create many unique codes at once for campaigns.

  1. Go to Coupon Engine β†’ Bulk Generate.
  2. Set a prefix, how many codes, the discount, and an expiry.

Restrictions & rules

Native WooCommerce restrictions

These live on the Usage restriction and Usage limits tabs and work for every store:

  • Minimum / maximum spend
  • Specific products / exclude products
  • Product categories / exclude categories
  • Allowed emails
  • Usage limit per coupon, per user, and to X items

The restriction builder

PRO

Add advanced conditions one at a time, on the Cart Conditions tab. Every rule must pass for the coupon to apply.

  1. Open the coupon and go to Cart Conditions.
  2. Click Add more restriction.
  3. Pick a restriction type and set its value β€” Who (role, logged-in, first order, past orders, lifetime spend), Where (country, state, city, postcode, shipping, payment), When (start date, valid days, time of day), Cart shape (item count, cart weight).
  4. Add as many rules as you need; remove any with the trash icon, then Save.
πŸ–Ό Screenshot β€” Restriction builder with several rules added

πŸ’‘

Note: In the free plugin the builder is visible but locked with a Pro badge, so you can see what's available before upgrading.

How it displays (front end)

If a rule isn't met, the coupon can't be applied. Cart-level rules (role, timing, item count…) are checked in the cart; address, shipping, and payment rules are checked at checkout, each with a clear message.

Inline vs. slide-in drawer

  • Inline β€” offers appear directly inside the cart.

Progress bar & locked offers

PRO

Encourage bigger carts.

  • The progress bar shows how much more to spend to unlock a deal (β€œAdd $25 more to unlock 15% off”).
  • Locked offers display not-yet-eligible coupons as locked teasers so shoppers keep going.

Enable both in Display Style.
