Installation
Coupon Engine has a free core plugin and an optional Pro add-on.
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins β Add New.
- Search for βCoupon Engine for WooCommerce.β
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
- Make sure WooCommerce is installed and active β Coupon Engine builds on it.
Tip: You can also upload the plugin ZIP under Plugins β Add New β Upload Plugin.
Activating Pro
PROPro unlocks advanced layouts, conversion tools, the restriction builder, and analytics.
- Install and activate the free plugin first (Pro extends it).
- Upload and activate the Coupon Engine β Pro ZIP the same way.
- Enter your license key under Coupon Engine β License and click Activate.
Note: The free plugin keeps working on its own. Pro simply adds features on top β if Pro is ever deactivated, your store falls back to the free behavior safely.
Quick start β your first coupon
- Go to Coupon Engine β Coupons β Add Coupon.
- Enter a code (or click Generate) and a short description β the description is what shoppers see in the offers list.
- Pick a discount type and amount (e.g. Percentage, 15).
- Turn on βList in Available offersβ so it appears in the cart.
- Click Save. Open your store's cart to see it live.
The coupon editor
The editor is organized into tabs so you only see what you need:
- General β code, description, discount type, amount, expiry, free shipping.
- Usage restriction β the native WooCommerce limits (spend, products, categories, emails).
- Usage limits β how many times the coupon can be used.
- BOGO Deal β buy-and-get rules.
- Cart Conditions β extra conditions plus the restriction builder PRO.
- Bulk Pricing PRO β quantity tiers.
- URL coupon β the shareable apply-by-link and redirect.
Note: The description field appears to customers in the Available-offers list, so write it as a short benefit (β15% off orders over $100β).
Percentage & fixed discounts
The everyday discounts, powered by WooCommerce's native types.
- Add a coupon and open the General tab.
- Set Discount type to Percentage, Fixed cart, or Fixed product discount.
- Enter the Coupon amount (e.g. 15 for 15% or $15).
- Optionally set an expiry date and free shipping.
- Turn on List in Available offers to surface it in the cart, then Save.
How it displays (front end)
The coupon appears in the cart's Available offers block with a badge (e.g. β15% OFFβ), the description, the code, and an Apply button. One click applies it and the cart total updates.
BOGO (Buy X, Get Y)
Create buy-one-get-one and mix-and-match deals.
- Add a coupon and open the BOGO Deal tab.
- Choose the trigger β specific product(s), a category, a combination, or any product β and the required quantity.
- Choose the reward β a free item, or the item at a % off / amount off / set price.
- Choose the reward source β same product, a specific product, or a category. PRO options: category triggers/rewards, non-free rewards, repeat, and auto-adding the gift.
- Optionally enable repeat and auto-add the gift to the cart, then Save.
How it displays (front end)
When the cart meets the trigger, the reward is added or discounted automatically and shown on the cart line with your label (e.g. βBuy 1, Get 1 Freeβ). On product pages you can show a BOGO badge.
Bulk / tiered pricing
PROReward bigger quantities with automatic tiers.
- Add a coupon and open the Bulk Pricing tab.
- Add tiers, e.g. Buy 3 β 10% off, Buy 5 β 20% off.
- Choose which products the tiers apply to, then Save.
How it displays (front end)
The product page can show a tier table so shoppers see the savings for buying more, and the cart automatically applies the correct tier based on quantity.
Auto-apply coupons
PRODiscounts that apply themselves β no code to type.
- Open the coupon and find Auto-apply (General tab).
- Enable Auto-apply this coupon.
- Add any conditions that must be met (see Restrictions), then Save.
Note: A customer can still remove an auto-applied coupon; Coupon Engine remembers that choice for their session and won't re-add it.
How it displays (front end)
As soon as the cart qualifies, the coupon shows as applied in the cart with the discount already reflected in the total.
URL coupons
Share a link that applies the coupon automatically.
- Open the coupon and go to the URL coupon tab.
- Copy the shareable apply-by-URL link.
- Set After applying, send to β Cart, Checkout, Shop, Home, or the same page.
- Share the link in emails, ads, or social.
How it displays (front end)
Clicking the link applies the coupon and sends the shopper to the page you chose, with the discount already active.
Scheduled coupons
PROLimit a coupon to certain dates, days, or times.
- Open the coupon and go to Cart Conditions.
- In the restriction builder, add rules like Start date, Valid days of week, or Time of day.
- Set an expiry date in the General tab if needed, then Save.
How it displays (front end)
Outside the schedule the coupon can't be applied, and the shopper sees a short message explaining why (e.g. βThis coupon is not valid today.β).
Bulk coupon generator
PROCreate many unique codes at once for campaigns.
- Go to Coupon Engine β Bulk Generate.
- Set a prefix, how many codes, the discount, and an expiry.
- Click Generate, then export the list if you need it (CSV).
How it displays (front end)
Each generated code behaves like a normal coupon at checkout.
Native WooCommerce restrictions
These live on the Usage restriction and Usage limits tabs and work for every store:
- Minimum / maximum spend
- Specific products / exclude products
- Product categories / exclude categories
- Allowed emails
- Usage limit per coupon, per user, and to X items
The restriction builder
PROAdd advanced conditions one at a time, on the Cart Conditions tab. Every rule must pass for the coupon to apply.
- Open the coupon and go to Cart Conditions.
- Click Add more restriction.
- Pick a restriction type and set its value β Who (role, logged-in, first order, past orders, lifetime spend), Where (country, state, city, postcode, shipping, payment), When (start date, valid days, time of day), Cart shape (item count, cart weight).
- Add as many rules as you need; remove any with the trash icon, then Save.
Note: In the free plugin the builder is visible but locked with a Pro badge, so you can see what's available before upgrading.
How it displays (front end)
If a rule isn't met, the coupon can't be applied. Cart-level rules (role, timing, item countβ¦) are checked in the cart; address, shipping, and payment rules are checked at checkout, each with a clear message.
Showing offers in the cart
Turn any coupon into a visible, one-click offer.
- Open a coupon and enable List in Available offers.
- Configure the global look under Coupon Engine β Display Style.
How it displays (front end)
Eligible coupons appear together in an Available offers block in the cart. Shoppers apply with one click (or copy the code, if you prefer that mode).
Layouts (Rows, Cards, Tickets, Collapsible)
Pick how offers look in Display Style β Layout:
- Rows (free) β a simple, compact list.
- Cards PRO β larger cards with a badge and description.
- Tickets PRO β a coupon-ticket look with a torn stub.
- Collapsible PRO β a βView available offers (n)β header that expands.
Inline vs. slide-in drawer
- Inline β offers appear directly inside the cart.
- Drawer PRO β an βAvailable Couponsβ button opens a slide-in panel, keeping the cart tidy.
Progress bar & locked offers
PROEncourage bigger carts.
- The progress bar shows how much more to spend to unlock a deal (βAdd $25 more to unlock 15% offβ).
- Locked offers display not-yet-eligible coupons as locked teasers so shoppers keep going.
Enable both in Display Style.
Cart goal bar
PROA persistent bar at the top of the cart that tracks momentum toward the next reward tier (e.g. free shipping). Enable it in Display Style β Cart goal bar.
Countdown timers
PROShow the time remaining before a coupon expires, adding urgency. Enable in Display Style.
Themes & colors
Match your brand in Display Style β Theme:
- 6 color presets, plus a multi-color mode PRO (each offer a different color), and soft / outline / flat design variants PRO.
Product-page offers
Show relevant deals right on the product page.
- In Display Style, enable product-page offers and choose the placement.
- For BOGO and tiered coupons, enable the badge / tier table.
How it displays (front end)
Shoppers see the offer (and any BOGO badge or tier table) on the product page, before they even reach the cart.
List, filters & bulk actions
The Coupons screen replaces WooCommerce's default coupon list with a cleaner one.
- Search by code; switch between All and Trash.
- Filter by type, offers membership, and status.
- Bulk actions: enable, disable, duplicate, trash/restore, delete.
- Bulk edit: set expiry, show/hide in offers, toggle auto-apply.

Compatibility & FAQ
- Works with the classic cart and the Cart & Checkout Blocks.
- HPOS (High-Performance Order Storage) compatible.
- Works with any WooCommerce theme; translation-ready.
